Rio Tinto AutoHaul ® Enhancement
The AutoHaul ® Project is a Rio Tinto initiative which introduces a system to automatically drive trains on the mainline.
The Rio Tinto AutoHaul system is the world’s first automated heavy-haul long distance rail network. This system operates 2.4km long trains
across 1,700km of rail throughout the Pilbara region of Western Australia and train movements are controlled from Perth. Implementing
these driverless locomotives has resulted in an increase to productivity and flexibility, with a simultaneous decrease in bottlenecking along the
rail systems and safety benefits related to level crossings and road vehicle distances travelled by employees.
